Meditation is something new for mankind as is the concept of cultural evolution.  Meditation is
a practice which focuses mainly on the individual while cultural evolution tries to connect the effect
of the individual to his culture.  Many have argued that religious ethics are the forward arrow of cultural evolution.  Others have argued that science is the saving grace.  Although meditation is only about 3,000 years old it can be a link to various religious practices which are far older.  Certainly, science and meditation are not at odds so that a link can be formed between science and religion.  What is needed is a path for progress so practices which are harmful to man can be left behind.
